The first floor
A room to work in, and a room to book
The first floor does two jobs. Most of the week it is a quiet place to work, free to anyone who walks in. When you want it to yourself, it is a function room for up to 60.
Free, and nothing to book
PlugsforLaptops
The first floor is a quiet room with tables, chairs, plugs and fast wifi, above a pub. That is genuinely all it is — and we would rather describe it plainly than dress it up as something with a membership tier.
There is no day pass. There is no minimum spend. There is nothing to reserve and no app to download. Order something at the bar, carry it upstairs, and stay as long as you like.

- Wifi
- Free, throughout the building, on a business line sized for a room full of video calls. No login wall, no time limit.
- Plugs
- At every table on the first floor, and about half the tables downstairs.
- How long you can stay
- As long as you like. One coffee and three hours is fine. If the room is full and you have finished, give the table up — that is the only rule.
- When it is quiet
- Before 11am and after 3pm. Tuesday and Wednesday mornings are calmest. Busiest between 12.30pm and 2pm.
- Calls
- Short ones anywhere. Longer ones at the far end by the window. Headphones on, speaker off.
- After five
- The lamps go on and the room turns over to drinking. Nobody will move you, but you will probably want to shut the laptop.
The quiet floor
Working from here, answered
- Can I work from The Grosvenor Arms?
- Yes. The first floor at 204 Garratt Lane, Earlsfield is a quiet, laptop-friendly room with fast wifi, plugs at every table and comfortable seating. There is no day pass, no membership and nothing to book — order at the bar and find a seat.
- How fast is the wifi at The Grosvenor Arms?
- Free wifi throughout the building on a business line, sized on the assumption that a dozen people will be on video calls at the same time. There is no login wall and no time limit.
- Are there plugs at the tables?
- Yes — at every table on the first floor, and at about half the tables on the ground floor. You should never have to sit on the floor next to a skirting board.
- Can I sit for three hours with one coffee?
- Yes. There is no minimum spend and no time limit. The only ask is that if the room is full and you have finished, you give the table up.
- When is the first floor busiest?
- Between about 12.30pm and 2pm, when the lunch orders peak. Before 11am and after 3pm it is usually quiet. Tuesday and Wednesday mornings are the calmest of the week. From about 5pm the room turns over to drinking.
- Can I take video calls?
- Short calls anywhere. For longer ones, the far end of the first floor by the window is where people tend to go. Headphones on and speaker off, please.
- Do I need to book the working floor?
- No. There is nothing to book and nothing to buy. It is a room above a pub with wifi and plugs, and you are welcome in it.
